Customized Floors

Our sister company SIAC NV has recently completed a renovation to a residence in Curacao. Solaris Design Center contributed to its interior decoration, which was in the capable hands of SIAC. We designed a floor in black and white tiles with squares ’sprinkled’ in an asymmetrical pattern. The striking shapes are like stamped collages throughout the living room and main areas of the living spaces on the first floor. The ’stamps’ are clean-lined and contemporary, but at the same time they make a playful yet elegant statement. A unique touch that gives the house its own distinct character.

People often overlook the fact that creative designs to floors can have a big impact on any room. Too distinct can make your floor a problem if you ever decide to change your interior scheme, but a good combination, such as the black and white blocks in varied sizes pictured here will fit most -if not all-interior schemes. We make it a point to transform each house into a jewel, and this floor is like the gem that completes the piece.

South Beach Style

Solaris Design Center recently designed the interior for a residence at Jan Sofat. This was in close cooperation with our sister-company, architectural firm SIAC N.V., which stripped the house and built a new energy-efficient roof supported by six steel columns and put in a magnificent custom-built 2-story glass (8 meters) wall by Vermaas Glas en Aluminum to open up the view to the sea.

Playful Elegance.

The alternative application of primary building materials together with the artfulness and fun colors give this house a unique style that is reminiscent of South Beach in Miami.

Parts of the former kitchen were salvaged to be used in the new kitchen.

A door was opened up to access the office spaces on the ground floor.

The cast-cement wall shelving system was also designed by and manufactured through Solaris. The kitchen is a combination of IKEA elements with parts of the old kitchen that was formerly in the house. The same cast-cement was used to make a rounded counter for the kitchen.

The old stairs were stripped of several layers of paint to restore the original Brazilian hardwood and the elaborate columns were replaced by steel cables covered with plastic to prevent rust caused by the corrosive sea winds.

Unconventional use of materials.

The Cedar plywood boards that deck the floors have most probably never been used as flooring before in Curaçao and were a nifty way to cut back costs.

The loveseats were re-upholstered to complement the colorful walls of the main family room which spells fun and warmth and is an ideal spot to enjoy family moments.
